Warming up the Voice
A VoiceCoach subscriber writes:
"I announce ice skating events. Sometimes people make comments about my voice. My normal conversational voice is squeaky and my professional voice is only a little bit better . What should I be doing to warm up my voice before an event so it has a better tone ?"
Susan Berkley writes:
"You're smart to know that warming up your voice makes it sound better. A basic vocal warm up only takes a couple of minutes and everyone should be doing it every day, not just sports announcers like you! One of the fastest and easiest warm ups to do is humming. Hum a simple song before going to work. I also suggest lip flutters. Difficult to describe in print, but sounds like the silly sound kids make when they put their lips together and blow. This warms up the vocal folds.
