Best Man Speeches
When it comes to mastering best man speeches, it's all about finding the right approach. If you've been chosen as the groom's best man for any reason, you'll definitely be more worried about the speech than any of your other duties.
One of your main concerns when thinking up your best man speeches is that you need to know as much about the groom as possible. You need to know who he is in terms of his personality - any important traits that may be worth mentioning or alluding to in any way. You need to know about his interests because you will need to inform the attending family and friends - especially those of the bride - exactly who he is.
You should also ensure that you are well-informed in terms of his career path, his successes and his aspirations - anything that will help everyone see exactly who the groom is. Having a clear idea of the groom's appearance during the development of your best man speeches is another important aspect, since it will definitely give you something interesting to say when the appropriate time comes. It may also help you to recollect some interesting stories or anecdotes from the past - one of the most welcomed and appreciated aspects of good best man speeches.
Often people are troubled with best man speeches when it comes to whether or not they should tell funny stories about the groom. The key to this is understanding the groom's personality. Of course, it the groom is not someone who can appreciate a joke that slightly humiliates him, then it's best not to include it. If you are at all unsure in this regard, the best thing you can do is tell the groom beforehand that you would like to mention it and ask him if he is comfortable with it.
Best man speeches cannot be effective without a comment about the best man's relationship to the groom. Whether you're his brother, uncle or best friend, it's important that you mention this early on in the speech so that everyone can get an idea of why you were chosen to deliver the speech. Your relationship to the groom also gives you an enormous amount of credibility - it tells the attendees why you have the authority to speak about the groom in the way that you do. It also gives you the right to present him in a way that isn't too serious.
At the climax of good best man speeches you will undoubtedly find the allusion to the couple's relationship. Everyone wants to know how the happy couple met, what attracted them to each other, how their relationship developed and so forth. At this stage you can also mention why you are sure that they are meant for each other. You can then use this to build up to the tribute to the bride and groom.
The tribute should be distinctly different from the rest of the speech, so it helps when you've built up to it sufficiently with the rest of your speech. Conclude by saying that you wish them all the best and that you hope everyone enjoys the food, drink and the rest of the ceremony.
