In most cases, you would be making a political speech to a constituency or your local community. Political speeches usually have an audience which is not likely to agree with you. Be prepared for brickbats while making such speeches.
You need to take a stand and stick to it: You need to remember that you cannot support everything just for the purpose of pleasing everyone; you need to take a stand and support only that which you believe in. You need to clearly state what you support and why; you also cannot speak at length about a single topic. You need to explain things clearly. In politics it is only normal for other people to oppose you, your beliefs, thoughts and opinions but this cannot be a deciding factor with regard to your personal views on anything, you must be bold and ready to stand your ground. This can only be achieved if you firmly believe in your own morals and values. Politics can bring about many persuasive speakers who may be able to spin the truth in ways that allow people to fall prey to half truths and lies, but you need to be firm in what you stand for and be ready for anything without giving in to the propaganda of others.
A strong speech should take criticism into account: In politics you should always be prepared for negative responses as this is quite normal in politics. You should learn to handle this rude behavior by either responding with a witty but humorous comment which immediately quietens the pessimistic critic or perhaps if you are the type who can ignore the jokers then do so. The trick is to not let those pessimistic comments throw you off course, if you show the audience that you are visibly disturbed by something an audience member has said they will be less likely to take what you have to say seriously.
Political speeches should be factually accurate: In order to be as effective as possible you need to make sure that anything you speak about is pure fact; if anyone happens to catch you out in a lie you will lose all the support and trust you have gained. Should you doubt that any of your information is correct or truthful, you should rather leave it out completely in the interest of remaining truthful. This means that you should always check all your information beforehand, it only makes sense to do so. A ruined reputation is not always easy to fix, especially when trust has been compromised.
Political speeches should not meander: In today’s times no one is interested in sitting for hours listening to a speech, instead they want to hear short but extremely interesting facts that leave them with many questions which you can answer at a later stage if need be. You need to say what you want to in a short, informative speech that does not bore anyone or leave them confused and disinterested. Although politics isn’t always exciting a political speech should be attention grabbing and short so that you don’t lose the audience’s attention. You need to be energetic and find ways to make dull or boring topics as interesting as possible.
