Informative Speech Topics
When trying to think of informative speech topics, the success of your search lies in knowing your audience and knowing yourself well enough to find an harmonious bridge between the two.
Essentially, this means that you firstly need to know yourself well enough to understand what interests you. If you can find topics that you are interested in, topics that you know alot about or topics that you are very passionate about, then you are one step closer to finding the right informative speech topics on which to base your speech. The reason for this is that if you have a topic that you are passionate about, you will be excited to learn more about it, so researching the topic will be much easier than researching something you know nothing about.
The same is true for topics that interest you, and if you know alot about a certain topic then of course it means that you will have less research to do to adequately communicate information to your listeners. You should still do a bit of research even if you think you know alot about a topic, however, so that you can be sure that you give your audience the most up to date and accurate information that you can. It is also a good idea to identify many different topics that interest you so that you have a range of choices to select in case any of them should prove inadequate at some point.
Informative speech topics are not only about your own tastes, however. It is also extremely important to ensure that you are aware of the interests and passions of your audience. Without this knowledge, you will end up choosing a topic that, although informative to some, would be boring to your audience. Thus, you need to be sure that you are aware of who your audience will be long before you start to prepare your speech.
You need to know what their average age and social status is, what their lives are like, what kind of employment they have, whether they have children or not, whether they travel alot and so forth. All of these things will allow you to determine what kinds of informative speech topics would interest them, and this in turn will help you to choose a great topic that suits both you and your audience. You don't need to know small details that would take a private investigator to figure out - all you need is some general information about who your audience is that will help you to determine their interests and passions.
Once you have identified the interests of your audience, you can begin to compare these interests with your own passions and interests which you have previously identified. A good idea is to brainstorm and list all of these things as you try and work towards finding great informative speech topics. List your own passions, list the information that you have about your audience and make connections with your interests and the information about your audience. Try and determine whether any of your interests match up to the information that you have about your audience, and in this way you will easily find topics that are perfect for your audience.
If all else fails remember that you have one great resource to fast-track the search. Use an Internet search engine to browse through lists of informative speech topics. Print some of the lists that seem to have relevant topics at a glance, and match these topics to the information about yourself and your audience that you have previously identified.
